Athens Area Habitat is the proud recipient of a $5,000 grant courtesy of the Jackson EMC Foundation funded by members of Jackson EMC through the Operation Round Up program.

This grant is designated to the Women Build initiative "Investing In Our Community." Local women will work alongside Habitat staff and partner families to raise funds to build a simple, decent, affordable home in our community.

Athens Area Habitat is participating in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service: Make it a day on, not a day off.

On MLK Day of Service, volunteers will be working in the Garnett Ridge area on beautification aspects to a larger revitilization effort continuing during the week. The volunteers will primarily support the project through beautification and improvements on the exterior of the building.

This revitilization effort will result in transitional housing for families who have a need for stabilization of living arrangements due to situational homelessness through potential partnerships with The Interfaith Hospitality Network, The Stable Foundation, and The Athens Area Homeless Shelter.

UPDATE: After just four days of open registration, our project site is full! We are honored by our community support! For those of you still interested in participating in the day of service, there are still plenty of other great projects with important organizations in the community.

If you would like to volunteer with Athens Area Habitat on a different date, please contact me (Laura, Public Outreach Director) and I would be thrilled to get you involved. You don't have to have any experience to build and it's a rewarding opportunity for everyone! Check out this volunteer video for some great motivation.

Due to an overwhelming response and limited capacity for volunteers, we will no longer be accepting volunteers at the ReStore as part of the “Give A Day, Get A Disney Day” program.

Volunteer opportunities still available include building at the construction site and office support. The minimum age requirement is 16 for all volunteer opportunities.

Office volunteers will help with data entry, filing, and other office related tasks. The office is open Monday through Friday 9am – 5pm.

"Hammer Swinging" on the job site is one of the best ways to get involved in our mission. No prior construction experience is needed and we provide everything you will need to build on the job site. We build Wednesday through Saturday 9am - 3pm.

Please register for a “Give A Day, Get A Disney Day” free ticket through the Disney site!
