Athens Area Habitat is participating in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service: Make it a day on, not a day off.
On MLK Day of Service, volunteers will be working in the Garnett Ridge area on beautification aspects to a larger revitilization effort continuing during the week. The volunteers will primarily support the project through beautification and improvements on the exterior of the building.
This revitilization effort will result in transitional housing for families who have a need for stabilization of living arrangements due to situational homelessness through potential partnerships with The Interfaith Hospitality Network, The Stable Foundation, and The Athens Area Homeless Shelter.
UPDATE: After just four days of open registration, our project site is full! We are honored by our community support! For those of you still interested in participating in the day of service, there are still plenty of other great projects with important organizations in the community.
If you would like to volunteer with Athens Area Habitat on a different date, please contact me (Laura, Public Outreach Director) and I would be thrilled to get you involved. You don't have to have any experience to build and it's a rewarding opportunity for everyone! Check out this
volunteer video for some great motivation.
