Ahoy, matey!

Customers at the Habitat thrift store this past Tuesday were surprised to see a band of pirates pushing a ship that looked mysteriously like a shopping cart across the tracks on Barber. These faces, though intimidating to the casual onlooker, on closer inspection turned to be the smiling faces of the thrift store staff, costumed up for the filming of the first ever "ReStore" commercial, a pirate one. For most of the morning, this crew(led by Captain Paul) trashed their way through the store, looking for treasure, as the cameras rolled on. Habitat would like to thank everyone from Digital Insight for their hard work during the production of this commercial, which encompassed everything from the costumes and make-up to the actual shooting. Keep a look out for this commercial to debut within the next few months on cable!

Navy School! Navy School!

The men and women of the Navy School were back in action this past weekend working on the Building on a Dream house alongside Ms. Susie Thomas as well as future homeowner Ms. Wanda Maddox. Volunteers helped Beau paint the interior as well as cut and set the trim. Of course this is just another notch in the belt for the Navy School, who have consistently been an excellent volunteer group both with Habitat and the community at large. Thank you Navy School!

Habitat and Pirates-a winning combination

With the help of a stellar Summer PR Committee and the support of Digital Insight, Habitat for Humanity is set to film our first ever Pirate commercial. The commercial, whose airing date will coincide with the grand opening of the ReStore in a few months, will be filmed this Tuesday, July 17th, and will feature Habitat staff and volunteers as pirates looking for their "hidden treasure" in the store. The commercial will be aired on cable channels in the following months. Habitat would like to thank Digital Insight for all of their help with production and Junkman's Daughter Brother for helping with costumes. Yaargh!

Abraham Alliance kicking it into high gear.

Members of the Abraham Alliance stepped up to the plate recently as they worked on the home of Ms. Robin Gresham on both Tuesday and Saturday of last week (taking a short break for the 4th of July, of course). The Abraham Alliance has been on the fast track to getting Robin's house done, and we can't wait to see how this house is going to progress!

Homebanc CEO doesn't mind getting his hands dirty

Football team takes a much-deserved break.

Homebanc and UGA Football Team partnership wraps up in an exciting conclusion

The month-long partnership of Homebanc and the football team reached an end this past Saturday as Coach Richt and the boys joined up with the Homebanc CEO and crew to prime the inside of the house and work on various exterior projects, including finishing up the outer porches and the arduous tasks of cleaning out the Habitat construction sheds. The Habitat construction team would like to express it's gratitude for the terrific workers that the football team and Homebanc staff have been, and to emphasize it's appreciation for the continuing efforts of these two organizations in assisting Habitat in the elimination of substandard housing in Athens-Clarke County.
