Cine Event Bring Athens Community Together

A diverse group of Athens residents turned out this past Thursday to take part in the Cine premiere of the Indian film "Water." The event was hosted by the 2007 Women's Build Campaign "Building Green and Building Dreams." Lindsey Walker, Resource Development Coordinator at Athens Habitat and chair of the Women's Build Steering Committee, welcomed everyone to the event and gave a brief history of Women's Build. She then introduced the speakers; Dr. Chris Cuomo, head of the Women's Studies Institute at the Univeristy of Georgia, and Debbie Dietzler, the Executive Director of the UGA Alumni Association. Dr. Cuomo spoke of the controversy surrounding the film's production in India and the struggle of the filmmakers to bring this story to life. Debbie spoke about the Women's Build project and the need of continuing support from the community to make the project succeed.

Habitat would like to thank the following organizations for their support.

-Athens Land Trust for their counting partnership and their dedication to the Women's Build project.
-Sliced Bread Company, the official marketing agency of the 2007 Women's Build Campaign
-Mama's Boy for catering the event.
