Tri-Faith Trot this Monday!

On Labor Day, Habitat would like to invite the community to participate in the Tri-Faith Trot 5k and Fun Run! Hosted by the Abraham Alliance, an interfaith coalition composed of members of Al-Huda Islamic Center, Congregation Children of Israel, and Milledge Avenue Baptist Church. The Alliance has steadfastly partnered with Habitat to build homes in the community, and Habitat is truly blessed by their efforts. The race will begin at Milledge Avenue Baptist and end in Memorial Park. The 5k will start at 8 a.m. and the Fun Run at 9 a.m. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. You can pre-register at www.active.com or pick up the forms at the Athens Area Habitat Office. Registration is $20. So come out this weekend and get some exercise while supporting this noble cause.

More than just co-workers

This past weekend, workers from Athens Regional Medical Center came out in support of Ms. Susie Thomas. Ms. Thomas has been working at ARC for nearly 30 years, and this past Saturday over a dozen of her fellow workers came out to work with Habitat as well as help Susie get her "sweat equity" taken care of. These volunteers sacrificed a Saturday to help Susie get as many "sweat equity" hours as possible, working on both the build site and the ReStore. Both Susie and the Habitat staff would like to thank this group for their hard work, proving that sometimes the word "co-worker" can take on a whole new meeting.

Even though the Fall is just starting up,, Athens Habitat would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the UGA groups who [articipated with us during the summer. These groups had a huge impact on the organization and their contribution will not soon be forgotten.

We would like to thank:
-The UGA football team, who participated in construction on the site for the month of June.
-DawgCamp who took time out of their week to help us in the ReStore on July 17th.
-Freshmen College Summer Experience for helping us on the build site on July 21st.
-Graduate students in public administration policy under the leadership of Joe Whorton for helping us on multiple sites this Saturday(the 11th)

UGA managed to stay actively involved during their time off froms chool, and Habitat was honored to work with them. God bless these students and may they have a succeessful fall!

Bridge Tournament a Big Success!

Card players from all corners of Athens-Clarke County converged at the Chapelwood United Methodist Church this past Thursday to participate in the kickoff fundraiser for the Athens Habitat 2007 Women's Build Campaign. Food was generously provided by many businesses listed below, and the MC's (Women's Build Steering Committee leaders Kay Richmond and Michele Simpson) kept the party going by giving some women build info. and giving out door prozes. All in all, the event raised more than $1000, money that is going directly to the Women's Build Project, to build a hoe for a family in the Athens Area. Thanks everyone!
