Family gets to move in before Christmas!

This past Thursday, the Leonard family home was dedicated by Athens Area Habitat and a big crowd from Emmanuel Episcopal Church. It was a wonderful celebration and the culmination of many wonderful people working very hard.

Congratulations to the Leonards! It's been a pleasure working with you and we all hope you enjoy your new home this Christmas!

Emmanuel Episcopal does it again! We had a great group out this past Saturday. Siding was installed, plants were planted, and porches were stained. Special thanks to the lunch crew who brought out hot chili on a cold day!

Jackson home groundbreaking a success!

The UGA Greeks and Athens Area Habitat have officially put their partnership into action. We're building a new home for the Jackson family! Last night's groundbreaking had a great turnout, so thanks everyone. We'll see you out on the build site!

Our latest project, built in partnership with Emmanuel Episcopal Church, is coming along very nicely. Thanks to volunteers from the church, as well as Oconee State Bank, there are now cabinets in the kitchen and a great deal of beautiful landscaping. Thanks everybody!

Dedication of the Smith Home

Well, we've finished another one!  Thanks to the support of the Dovetail Companies, the Athens community, and all of our volunteers, Nicole Smith is now the proud owner of a new home.  Dedicated this past Wednesday, we wish the Smith family all the best as they move in and enjoy their new place.

Well, it may have rained like crazy the night before, but we had a huge group of volunteers show up this past Saturday and help build new shelves for the ReStore.  Thanks everyone for braving the weather, being flexible, and doing a great job!  Special thanks to the members of Emmanuel Episcopal who made lunch for everyone.

Another Great Build Day!


Thanks again to Emmanuel Epsicopal and all of our individual volunteers for working on the Leonard home! Things are really shaping up for our newest Habitat house, and thanks to the added siding and landscaping that you did, we're one week closer to finishing.

Jittery Joe's Fall Classic Century a huge success!

Jittery Joe's Fall Classic Century: Pre- registration ends soon!



Jittery Joe’s Fall Classic Century

A ride benefiting Athens Area Habitat for Humanity

Saturday October 25, 2008 8:00 am


Jittery Joe’s and Athens Area Habitat for Humanity present the first annual Fall Classic Century bike ride on October 25, 2008. The participation ride will be a metric century with two course lengths, 62 miles and 31 miles. Ride starts at Jittery Joe’s in Watkinsville and winds through scenic Oconee county.


Participate in the Gambler, an entertaining twist to a regular ride! Start with a playing card, gather three on the ride at checkpoints with refreshments, and the final card will be given at the finish. The cyclist with the best hand wins a prize!


Registration: $25 per person before October 17,2008; $30 after. Family rate is $75 (pre-registration only). Be a phantom rider for $30 (Receive a bag but not participate). Register by mailing completed form (make checks payable to Athens Area Habitat for Humanity) or online at www.athenshabitat.com. Registration and packet pickup begins at 6:30 am on 10/25. You may also pick up your packet all day on Friday Oct 24 at Jittery Joe's in Watkinsville.

Athens Area Habitat would like to welcome our new German volunteers! They worked their first Saturday Build this past weekend and did a wonderful job. Look forward to seeing Nico, Michael, and Lucas around the community.

Athens Area Habitat for Humanity Turns 20!

Athens Area Habitat will host a Birthday Party to celebrate twenty years of serving the Athens community on August 8, 2008. The party will honor the families, volunteers, and organizations that have come together to change lives and build community for twenty years.
