Athens Area Habitat, in partnership with the UGA Greeks, was honored to dedicate the Jackson Family home.

The dedication ceremony celebrates the completion of the house and thanks the countless volunteers who gave of their time, talents, and materials to the build.

This home was fully funded by the University of Georgia Greek Life Community. The UGA Greeks not only provided a full sponsorship for the home, but also staffed the build site with volunteers every weekend. Panhellenic President, Jen Tooher spoke of the partnership, “We were so thrilled to be able to come together and give back to our community through an organization like Habitat. The house is proof that if everyone contributes a little of their time and energy, a lot can be accomplished.”

New Habitat homeowner, LaDarris Shere Jackson and her son Xavier are looking forward to moving into the home they helped to build. Jackson supported the construction of her home by contributing 500 sweat equity hours working at the job site along side volunteers and staff. Jackson says, “Athens Area Habitat has truly been a blessing for my son and I. We have been giving a once in a lifetime opportunity to live in a nice home where we can build life long memories.”

Silver & Archibald Run/Walk for Home 5k

This weekend concluded the 18th Annual Silver & Archibald Run/Walk for Home 5k. This fun and family friendly Athens tradition benefited Athens Area Habitat and the Athens Area Homeless Shelter.

After lots of much needed rain, the weather cleared to perfect weather for our dedicated runners (and walkers). Thank you to the two hundred participants who came out to support this event. Also a special thank you to all the business partners, media, police, and volunteers who provided the support to make this event a great success!

We were Spotted! Check out photo's from the event courtesy of the Athens Banner Herald.
