ReStore Grand Opening-what a weekend
This past week, Habitat opened up the ReStore in style, with music, food, raffles and more! This past Friday, Women's Build Day, raised over $1000 for the fundraising effort. Donations also poured in this past Saturday during the grand kickoff. Habitat would like to thank the Athens community that supported the organization during this transition, and we look forward to continually improving the store and better serving the Athens area. Thanks again!

ReStore grand opening this week!
This week, Athens Area Habitat for Humanity is going to be hosting the grand opening of the Habitat ReStore, and everyone in the Athens community is invited! The store (formerly the thrift store) is located at 532 Barber Street and sells a wide range of materials, from houseware to hardware, all of which are %100 recycled. Here's a lsit of how we're celebrating this special occasion.
Thursday, September 20th, Habitat will be hosting Free Book Day, where patrons are free to browse the ReStore's library and grand a handful of free books of every genre!
Friday will be Women's Build Day, where informational materials about the Women's Build will be on display, and all proceeds and donations will benefit the 2007 Women's Build Campaign, "Building Green and Building Dreams"
Saturday, September 22nd is the big day, where from 12-3PM we will have live music, food, a raffle (tickets are included with every ten-dollar purchase in the store) and an auction, where we will be auctioning off our German volunteers for an afternoon of free labor. So if you have any yard or house work that needs to be done, be sure to stop by and place a bid!

Cine Event Bring Athens Community Together
A diverse group of Athens residents turned out this past Thursday to take part in the Cine premiere of the Indian film "Water." The event was hosted by the 2007 Women's Build Campaign "Building Green and Building Dreams." Lindsey Walker, Resource Development Coordinator at Athens Habitat and chair of the Women's Build Steering Committee, welcomed everyone to the event and gave a brief history of Women's Build. She then introduced the speakers; Dr. Chris Cuomo, head of the Women's Studies Institute at the Univeristy of Georgia, and Debbie Dietzler, the Executive Director of the UGA Alumni Association. Dr. Cuomo spoke of the controversy surrounding the film's production in India and the struggle of the filmmakers to bring this story to life. Debbie spoke about the Women's Build project and the need of continuing support from the community to make the project succeed.

Sneak Preview at the Cine Theater!
The 2007 Women's Build Campaign will be hosting the premiere of the Academy Award- nominated film "Water" at the Cine theater on Hancock this coming Friday, September 7th. The event will be catered and a keynote speaker will introduce the film. That speaker is Dr. Chris Cuomo, director of the Institue for Women's Studies and professor of philosophy at the University of Georgia. The social hour during which food and beverages are served will take place from 6-7PM with the film beginning promptly thereafter. Door prizes and a raffle will take place. The cost is $18 per ticket and the tickets can be picked up at the Habitat office at 532 Barber Street.
