During June, Athens Area Habitat for Humanity has been honored to participate in the Teens in Action summer program. Teens in Action is a summer program offered by Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services. The program is for teens, aged 13-15, and is limited to 10 participants. Each week the teens spend their mornings volunteering in the community, followed by an afternoon of recreational activities. These teens have helped clear out the area around the Habitat thrift store and helped assist the staff in other jobs they completed. Other volunteer sites have included the American Red Cross and the Athens Homeless Shelter. Thanks to all of these young men and women for using their summer to make a difference.

The days get hotter, but the football team is always cool
Members od the Northeast Atlanta branch of Homebanc joined up with the UGA Football team for the third week in what's been an exciting partnership between the mortgage corporation and the UGA Athletic Association (both of whom have always been huge supporters of Athens Area Habitat). With contractors prepping the interior, volunteers were put through a grueling day's work out in the sun, the football players under the direction of Coach Johnson. Both groups showed a willingness to endure the Georgia heat and polish up the exterior of the Building on a Dream house. Next week marks the exciting closure of this unique experience with the final sponsored build and the participation of the football team (Mark Richt might even make an appearance). Habitat would like to once again thank Homebanc and the football team for their continued participation both in Athens Area Habitat and the community at large. It's been a blast.

The football team and Homebanc came out for another build this past Saturday, finishing off the soffit under the roof and working ion the side porch. The hard work of these two groups is putting the build ahead of schedule, and Beau Harvey, the construction manager, has praised these groups as some of the hardest working he has ever seen on the site. Homebanc sponsors UGA Football team to help with Habitat
Homebanc, in partnership with the UGA Athletic Association, has sponsored sponsored the UGA Football team to come and assist Habitat for the month of June. Homebanc has always been a big supporter of Habitat, and we are pleased to have both volunteers from Homebanc and players on the football team helping us out all this month. Volunteers from both organizations came out bright and early Saturday morning to get to work on Susie Thomas' house, and the work progressed at an astounding rate given the heat. Small groups worked all over the house, from working on the roof right down to the foundations, setting steps and putting up vinyl siding. The football players and Homebanc volunteers didn't let the weather keep them from having one of the most productive Saturday's on record. Habitat would like to thank all of our volunteers for the good work on Saturday. Habitat would also like to thank Homebanc for sponsoring the build and the football team for their continuing involvement with the community. Go Dawgs!
